Second Nature formed after years of Dylan and I talking daily about the business of outdoor sports. Our shared fascination with the brands, athletes and media that make up the outdoor sports world has always been a mainstay of our discussions.
We’ve always done deep dives on brands and had in-depth conversations with other athletes, and now we’re organizing it into a podcast and newsletter format so that we can share what we’ve learned with everyone here.
Expect the pod and newsletter to share news, insights and the occasional interview focused on the business of outdoor sports. Our backgrounds have given us different perspectives on this world, and we’re keen to share what we know.
If you’re just meeting us for the first time, here’s a little background on me and Dylan:
I’m Aaron Lutze, I was at Red Bull for twelve years, mostly focused in the Event and Athlete Management side of the business. I had access to some of the best athletes as well as some of the best sports marketing minds of our era, and that’s where Dylan and I first crossed paths. I am also the host of Super Rider, which helps mountain bikers break down complex bike skills into easy-to-learn techniques. I grew up as a professional mountain bike trials rider (the guys who rock climb on bikes, basically) and now I share my knowledge with beginner and intermediate riders.
Dylan will probably want to rewrite this section, but until he does, let me tell you about him: he’s one of the most trusted voices in the world of trail running. For good reason, too - not only has he racked up wins at some of the gnarliest ultrarunning events in the world, but he also founded Freetrail, which has brought so much positive progression to the world of trail and ultra running. I am constantly in awe of his ability to grow Freetrail into the media empire that it is quickly becoming.
So here we go: weekly podcasts of the two of us riffing on the things we find most interesting in the business of outdoor. Thanks for joining us here, we hope you love it as much as we do.
