Launching A New Race Team with Colleen Quigley
And an inside perspective about the future of trail running conferences and trade shows..
Starting Line
We made it a whopping four weeks on the “one episode a week” program before we snuck in our first bonus episode! With TrailCon coming up, it was the perfect time to chat all things conferences and trade shows with Doug Emslie. Check out both of this week’s episodes, two conversations we are extremely excited to share:
Launching A New Race Team with Colleen Quigley
Colleen Quigley is no stranger to racing - competing at the highest level in the Olympics. After accomplishing some big goals, Colleen has turned her attention to a new goal: founding Meridia, a track team with a completely different setup that focuses on the individual talents and gives them room and resources to thrive.
Article Of The Week
The rise of an athlete-authored era. There’s a spectrum of athlete creators on the rise, and Trailmix captured it perfectly in this article. We loved this line in particular: As old models collapse, the future of sports media may not be slicker or more profitable. It might just be more human.
Sidenote: Matt Walsh (the author of this article) is going to be joining us at TrailCon this year!
Job Of The Week
🚀 Wild Rye is hiring a Product Director. Cassie Abel’s honest and transparent interview on the podcast was such a refreshing conversation — here’s an opportunity to join the team! Wild Rye also recently launched a WeFunder campaign - check out the details here if you want to get involved.
🏃♂️ Puma is looking for a Senior Marketing Manager with a focus in PR/Comms.
👉 Topo Designs is hiring a Marketing Operations Coordinator, which could be a great opportunity for someone looking to get started in the outdoor industry.
😳 Kilian Jornet is looking for a Western States pacer…best of luck to whoever gets this job!
Show Notes
BPC - Brand, Product, Content
BPC is our closing segment, where we share our favorite new brands, products we’re using, and content that we love.
Snow League: Shaun White’s new contest series that recently kicked off, after a year in the making. There is increased focus on the athletes and on the content surrounding the event - and this is arguably one of the more successful launches of an athlete-driven global event series, definitely one to keep an eye on.
Don't Call It A Comeback (Book): Keira D’Amato wrote this book, with the subtitle “What Happened When I Stopped Chasing PRs and Starting Chasing Happiness”, which fits in line with our guest Colleen Quigley’s article called “Peace Over Podiums”.
The Monday Mantra: Our friend Kate Courtney recently started a Substack where she shares wisdom every Monday. This past week’s mantra about skipping the second arrow resonated so well with us.
Semafor “Mixed Signals” Podcast: Doug Emslie shared Semafor’s Mixed Signals podcast. This podcast pulls back the curtain on the business of the media industry from the people who know it best.
Kilian Jornet’s Return To Western States: Dylan shared this video from Kilian, about his return to the event, as well as a look back at his first appearance at the race.
