The Rebirth Of Suunto
How the cross-pollinated career of Jake Largess is impacting the relaunch of a major brand in the USA...
Starting Line
Cross-pollination is one of our favorite topics on the pod: the idea that you can look at other sports or businesses to take inspiration, and bring it to the outdoor industry to create a successful outcome. Today’s guest was there for the early days of Nike 6.0 and recounted some of those original conversations - and how that time impacted the rest of his career, including the rebirth of Suunto in the USA.
The Rebirth Of Suunto
Jake Largess joined Suunto just in time for the rebirth of the company and expansion beyond watches. Recounting his history in the industry, including his time at Nike as part of the 6.0 project, Jake shares lessons he’s learned through his experience, and how they apply to what he’s working on now. Suunto recently launched the Vertical 2 watch, and in this podcast we learned more about their other recent product line expansion: bone-conducting headphones.

This article from Seth Lareau is an incredible outline of the opportunities that exist in trail running (and other sports), and it’s not hard to see why we’ve spent quite a bit of time on the podcast talking about content, creators, and the opportunity that exists for athletes in every single sport.

Show Notes
BPC: Brand, Product, Content
BPC - Brand, Product, Content - is our closing segment of the podcast, where we share the brands we’ve discovered, products we’re using, and content that we love.
⌚️ Suunto: Check out the latest Vertical 2 watch - and the new bone-conducting headphones that Suunto just launched.
👟 Vessi - Waterproof Shoes: Winter is coming, and that means (for most of us) that we’re going to need something to stay dry and warm over the next few months. Aaron is two years in on his first pair, and still going strong. Bring on the Northwest winter!
👀 The Row: Imagine a fashion brand with no presence on social media. The Row is a fashion brand doing exactly that. With two famous co-founders, they’re letting the work speak for itself.
