What We've Learned In The Outdoor Industry
Hard-won lessons as both employees and business owners.
Starting Line
We are back for the fourth week, clearing the dreaded podcast hurdle of three episodes, which is where most podcasts wrap things up. We’re just getting started, and we’re glad you’re (already!) along for the ride. Thanks for being here, we hope you like today’s batch of Second Nature content!
Also, a BIG thank you to everyone who sent us messages on our new Second Nature Instagram - we incorporated a ton of your input and feedback into the new episode (and will continue to do so). Thanks again!
Today’s Episode
Today’s episode was a special one, as Dylan was in Oregon for the Gorge Waterfalls race. We pulled him away from his event duties to chat in person about lesson’s we’ve learned in our time in the outdoor industry - both as employees and leading companies. We share actionable advice for anyone, whether you are just breaking in to the industry or if you’re already up and running a business. We also discuss the fiasco going down at a European bike brand and how the Women’s NCAA Final impacted the future of sports. You can also check it out on Apple or Spotify podcasts, if you prefer the audio experience.
Brand, Product, Content
Here’s the tiny camera Aaron was talking about during BPC, the DJI Osmo Pocket. It’s a 4K camera with a gimbal that is small enough to fit in your pocket. These cameras are incredible - bigger sensor than a GoPro, ability to shoot vertical or horizontal, and most importantly, a gimbal to make all your footage look smooth (which is especially useful when you hand it to someone else to film the action).
Dylan mentioned Pendleton as his BPC for this week, the iconic Oregon wool company. If you’ve ever seen these patterns on blankets, flannels or Nike gear - it all came from here! Pendleton continues to do some interesting collaborations…maybe we can talk them into a Gorge Waterfalls collab next year?
Gorge Waterfalls Livestream
Check out the live coverage for this year’s Gorge Waterfalls race (both 50k and 100k will be on this channel)! All the event info and tracking can be found here.
