Good listen as always! I enjoyed the conversation here around the unsponsored project and Bandit. As an athlete who will be racing worlds for a small country, will definitely not be on any podium and who is unsponsored - this idea is really exciting. Thinking about realistic ways that I would feel supported by Freetrail and my largest expenses I think a few opportunities that exist would be coaching, nutrition and pre race housing. Freetrail has a branch of its business solely dedicated to coaching, I am actually working with one of the Freetrail Pros in this build preparing for Canfranc. Freetrail could provide free or reduced cost access to its coaching team to help unsponsored athletes design a holistic training block. The second cool avenue of support would be pairing with brands like Never Second that are already at least Freetrail sponsors to have them help design and supply nutrition to athletes. We have seen the major positive impacts that the Precision team has had on their athlete’s success all summer long, most notably the way they showed up at Western and the corresponding break out performances of many of their athletes. The final potential support would be pre race Freetrail Team housing at race venues. Every major brand has a house leading up to UTMB for weeks before the race for athletes to train and acclimate. As an unsponsored athlete I’ll be showing up to Canfranc from the US about 3 days before the race (when the free race provided housing begins) and this will be the first time I will have ever been to Spain, let alone seeing the course. I believe for Eugene, Tracksmith will rent out a house for their athletes to stay in leading up to and during the races. Offering a chance for unsponsored athletes to come over early in the cycle to acclimate could also allow for major improvements for them by letting them be familiarized with the area. It could also serve as almost an artist in residence style set up for unsponsored athletes to be able to produce content with the Freetrail team to help boost both parties image within the sport. Thank you again for this fun topic!
